Do you want to live upstairs or downstairs? Upstairs is a hassle when moving, but downstairs gets all the noise from above.
Is it in a good neighborhood? You don't want to be kept up all hours by people arguing and fighting in the parking lot.
Do they allow pets? If so, is the pet deposit refundable?
Do they have pest control problems? A good way to check is to open the cabinets when looking at an apartment.
Is there an on-site manager/maintenance? This could mean less headaches if you encounter a problem.
How long is the lease? Some go month-to-month, 6 month, 1 year, even 2 years. What suits you best?
How much can you afford? Some places make you pay first and last months rent, security deposit and pet deposit all at once.
READ THE LEASE, in full, before you sign. If you disagree with any of their policies, do not sign it.

3) Location can you travel to work and back or is it on the bus line?
4) You need to eat will you have enough left over each week to be able to eat properly?
5)You still need to live does it leave you enough to still go out once in a while?
6)If you have children make sure there is no lead paint
7) You need to pay to move ..save for it
8) The lighting is there enough? Is lighting importnt to you? I mean like can the sun shine in? A dark apartmnet can be depressing!!
9) Make sure you do a move in inspection so you dont have to pay for the last tenants mistakes!!!!
Just take in the surroundings and make sure it is someplace you will like to be in for at least a year the length of time most leases are for, if not you will be responsilbe to pay the rent if they cant rerent it after you move out, if the lease isn't up.

Your neighbors will be a major factor for you ,with noise ,when you/they come in /out /work patterns ,as in apartments you hear lots of goings on ,also paint your door a really distinctive colour so you can tell visitors mines is the (bright yellow door)

do a walk through with the landlord, and check for damage and check everything, everywhere. is the stove clean?is the caulking around the tub mouldy? are any window or patio door screens riped or torn? any damage anywhere. then write it all down and get you and the landlord to sign it so you will know which damage you caused and which was all ready there,so when IT comes time to get your damage deposit back there will be no dispute

try to get a apartment at the end of the bld. also on the highest floor. this why you get less noise and make less noise. if your on the bottom you might hear a lot of walking, also don't get to friendly with the neighbors, could come back and haunt you.
