You should try teasing her with the nipple by rubbing it off her cheek and stuff. If she won't take it though I really would consider the bottle. Your cousin could begin to express the milk into a bottle for the baby once her full milk comes in but until then she really needs to get the nutrients and calories from milk, no matter where it comes from. Formula milk is better than no milk. Good luck and congratulations!

You can still bottle fed a baby breast milk it the baby is having problems latching on. I had a similar problem with my daughter and I had to pump my breast milk and then feed her with a bottle. It could also be that her latching reflex is not yet mature enough also, but don't worry about the weight loss, all babies loose weight when they are first born, she will pick it up again.

You could keep trying, but, you may have to do a bottle with breast milk. You may need to look into that option sooner, because if the baby doesn't latch on and drink properly soon, your cousin may have milk production problems. That's what happened to me when my baby couldn't latch.
Also, since the baby is still in the hospital, please ask for a lactation consultant to help.

well you can bottle feed her by having your cousin pump her milk and feed it to her that way as long as she keeps pumping then the milk will still keep flowing and its the same the difference is that she is not feeding off the breast you can ask for a manual pump at the hospital or they ill leaned you a electric one

have your cousin pump her milk into a bottle she will get the same nutrition. it is normal for a baby to lose weight after being born. don't worry it will all work out. also if she did not latch on as soon as she is born she is just not used to it. good luck

Most babies only breast feed from their birth mothers. Just give them baby formula with DHA in it. Bottle feeding won't hurt with good formula.

this may sound stupid but it may work for you(it worked for me) but use a breast pump and when you go to feed the milk to the baby add a little bit of sugar. when i did it my daughter guzzled it all down with no problem.

do you really think its wise for your cousin to breast feed her?have her keep pumping or resort to formula i think that she will bond way too much to your baby if she is breastfeeding her that will cause alot of pain
