Depends on your field of study and whether you work for the government, an academic institution, or a private firm, but scientists in the medical field average starting pay is $45000 and can go upwards of $100000 with a PhD.

This depends upon what type of scientist you are!

You can check on all "varieties" of scientists by checking The Occupational Outlook Handbook at your local public library.
This reference source has descriptions of hundreds of jobs (including scientists), gives the education requirements, the job outlook and salaries. Much of this will depend upon where the scientist is employed.

University? Private company? Government? The salaries will be different for each of these entities.
