You can quit at any given time, with or without an explanation, It is proper to give notice,(2 Weeks), and will help should you require a ref. , Employers cannot give a "bad" ref. But they can state that you did not give any notice.

most employment these days is considered "at will", which means you're entitled to leave anytime you'd like, with or without notice. Of course, this goes the other way, too, and you can be fired "with cause", or without.

you can quit your job anytime but it is professional to give 2 weeks notice so they can get a replacement
