There are 118 possible elements. Almost every element can have more than one isotope. I don't know how many different isotopes there are but I'm guessing it's close to 400.

Each element has an atomic number. The atomic number is equal to how many protons there are. So, if you change the atomic number, you also change the number of protons. This means that you would change the element itself.
