Their are some plant which do not need sun light to survive they live under large tree in the forest protected from the sunlight, if exposed they wilt in direct sunlight. Those are classified as indoor plant. Their are those which need sun light and carbon dioxide so the green pigment in the leaves, can keep the plant green.
If you are going to purchase plants, tell the gardener where you are planning to put such plants. and he or she will direct you to which one plant to buy.

Indoor plants grow better indoors and outdoor plants grow better outdoors!

It depends on the plant. Some require a lot of light and other require less light. Do a search for your specific plant your looking at. I think you would get your most accurate answer this way. :)
