I just can't stand putting my mouth directly on the glass. Those dish washing machines never do a great job. Yuck.

When i go to a restaurant, yes, i do use a straw. I wouldn't say that it is any safer, i just prefer to drink from a straw. Most of the time, i drink from a straw at home. It depends on what i am drinking.

I use a straw for my soda but not my tea, water, or beer.
You did not say why a straw would be safer?
You eat from a plate, use a fork, knife and spoon that someone else has used.
If you feel that a restaurant is not clean do not eat there.

I don't know about safer but I drink through straws for 3 reasons.
My teeth are sensitive
It keeps my lips from getting dry and chapping
I place the straw behind my teeth to keep from staining the front of my teeth.

I use a straw but i am not sure if it is safer. If I thought the glass wasn't clean I wouldn't eat there anyway.

I use a straw. I find it awkward to drink from a large glass that's filled almost all the way up without a straw.

I always use a straw. It's really awkward for me to drink out of a cup. Especially like at a baseball game or something. I'm glad to know that im being safe. Plus a couple of my teeth are really sensitive so it kind hurts when ice touch them.

It depends on the restaurant. I drink from a straw if they decide to give me one, but otherwise I drink from the glass.

Yes, because when I drink straigt out of the glass all of the ice comes into my mouth and it's very frustrating. The down side: when there is not enough ice in the glass and I get the warm fluid on the bottom of the glass instead of the cool fluid on top where the ice floats.

Yes.
By the way, the two dirtiest things in a restaurant are the restroom door handle and the
ice. Sometimes the employees go to the restroom and don't wash their hands and then they put the ice in the drink machine.
