Yes, dialup should work from most phone lines.

There is an exception though. There are some phone lines where dialup doesn't work at all but these are usually in rural areas. Using a technology called multiplexing, it is possible for the phone company to deliver phone service to a number of subscribers using a single pair of wires. This replaced the old "party line" service that was common up into the 1950s where you could pick up the phone and listen in on your neighbors' phone calls. Multiplexing allows several homes to be on a single phone line but allows all of them to use the phone at the same time without interfering with each other.

Multiplexing works fine for voice calls, but kills modem communications. Dial-up internet and fax machines often do not work on multiplexed lines or work very slowly when they do. If you think that you may be on a multiplexed line that is interfering with dial-up service, call your phone company to complain.

the respond is "No." The term "dial-up" refers back to the truthfully technique of a modem finding out to purchase a dial tone from a LANDLINE and then making a connection. this could be impossible to do without telephone line that produces a dial tone.

No because it goes through YOUR phone number, not another person's in another house. I cant take my Verizon DSL modem to another house and hook it up because the account is on MY home number. Make sense?

Yes. However, some phone modems can be damaged by digital phone systems, like those used in commercial offices/ businesses.
