This is how moose avoid being killed by their shorter-legged wolf and bear predators—they stand in water deep enough to force a wolf or bear to swim.

AHA ive been waiting to show off my moose skills. When a moose is drinking, it puts its feet in the water for a few reasons, the feet are not as sensitive as its mouth, so it is to test the water, Another reason is that mooses feet get very hot, so the water can cool them down, also the moose have small glands in there feet that suck in some of the water, so they stay cooler for longer.
Thanks

One explanation is that, certainly in summer, aquatic plants are a part of a moose's diet, and so, one could be standing in the water in order to reach below the surface to feed.

Probably, because if it doesnt go into the water, it has to bend down to drink...

If it goes into the water, the more it goes into it, the less it has to bend down, and the moose didnt get that big and filled out, by using a lot of energy for nonessentials...

I wish you well...

It's a balance/ physiology issue. They can't tilt too far to get water or food at ground level so they feed on taller plants and have to lower themselves so that the water is at least half way to their knees.

I would think the large antlers would make him tip over if he tried to drink from the bank.

they're like giraffes. they can't reach it if they just stand on the bank so they stand in the water to be closer to it.

Its to force predators to swim, such as bears and wolves, since that will slow them down.
