Your local travel agent not only has the best last minute deals, but can tell you face to face the best place to stay. Cancun/Playa Del Carmen/Puerto Adventuras.
You can research so much on line that you will miss the best price.
Go to the expert in your area.

I'd recommend an all-inclusive resort, like the El Dorado Royal in the Mayan Riviera. It is south of downtown Cancun, but close enough to take a cab ride there everyday. You are away from all the tourists and is a much more romantic for your honeymoon. Don't know if you can get on that short notice.
Acapulco is also very nice. It is a crowded city, but not many American tourists there. The bay is beautiful.

Cancun is designed and marketed for the US market. So it's great fun with plenty of McDonalds and Fried Chicken. Great Sandy beach and great sights within 1/2 day drive. Can be a bit expensive.

It's a bit late to book a honeymoon though...

Cancun is OK for a honey moon. Try Expedia.com or Travelocity.com

If you want more adventure try Chiapas, but Cancun is very nice too.

It is a nice there. Check out the Moon Palace resort, or the Aventura/Spa Palace down the coast in the Mayan Riviera.
