I dont know much about trucks. The engine is V6 4.2, and has all new hoses, it looks like. I saw the service records, and all looks good. The truck was a work truck, but is in good condition.

I'm considering just getting the PowerTrain warranty. 2 years. $890. Covers tranny, engine, back wheels/axle, etc. Seems like it's worth it, but dont' want to just waste money on this.

Bought the truck for $12K flat

I hope you bought it at the dealership or somewhere that offers extended warrenties. Absolutely buy the warrenty it will definetly payoff in the long run. I am a previous car salesman and have seen several people make mistakes by not purchasing the warranty. Get the longest warrenty possible with a deductible you can handle out of pocket in case something happens, and remember to get the one that covers everything except general maintenance. I have seen someone drive off the car lot and 3 months later the transmission went out. $2500 to replace!!! If you don't use just be glad it was there if you needed it and remember that with the warranty you will not overlook those little noises and slipping that you usually would if not purchased. Another thing is you have no idea how the person before you drove it or what they pulled behind it.

You shouldn't need one, but I find extended warranties are good insurance just in case.

Ford has a good used car extended warranty as a lot of the other independant extended warranties can go from being real good to being real jerks about stuff (I've seen a few who are very idiotic about what they pay..)

Ask around with others and see what they think of them. Also try asking the service writers at the local Ford dealers and other mechanic shops if they even take them.. A lot of extended warranty companies are not taken at dealers because of their practices and winds up becoming a reimbersement where you have to fight them and I've fought with them personally.. an unexperienced owner would loose at it anymore.

Don't think I'm pushing Ford over others (I personally like it as it's pretty cut and dried) but there are aftermarkets sold by dealers that are pretty good too...

Stay away from the internet and mail companies as they are usually the ones I have the problems with

It's up to you...I would not. I don't know what engine is in this truck or which transmission. Most cases show that warrantees of this type are very limited. Ford doesn't have any engines in trucks that have serious flaws. The transmission is probably an AOD so it shouldn't give you any problems. There's not much that will go wrong with this truck. Good luck.

Yes, I'd get one if I didn't know about cars, trucks and such. Maybe up to 125K would probalby be good. Get one that'd cover seals and such up to that mileage too. Be wary of what they offer, and definitely ask about seal coverage, as most won't after so many miles. They tricked my Mrs with that, and she had bought a minivan with 81k on it...and to my dissappointment, it had leaks all over the place, but the warranty she bought didn't cover squat. Her loss on the funds too. And them bastards wnated to chage me $1000 to fix alot of other leaks except for the one I tried to get the warranty honored for. My 2 cents. Sorry bout the fuming.

definite actually you may want to. I actually have an 01 F-350 and an 04 F-100 and fifty they're both in good structure yet i purchased with 210,000 miles on.They run good, by no skill destroy down and are good use for hauling and wearing trailers or getting out of dirt. i purchased them used for round 9000 so 5300 is a acceptable deal.
