Zillow is way too high most places. I've heard reports of a few places where it's too low, and nowhere where it's close to correct by the only universal standard: Actual ongoing sales of properties between willing buyers and willing sellers.

Realtor.com gives you asking prices, a very different thing from actual sales.

For some counties you can find out online, but it takes good research skills and a subscription to Realist.com (not free).

Full MLS access and Dataquick are the only ways I know to do it easily, and both are costly. Or you can talk to a realtor, or to a title company if you're going to buy a policy of title insurance.

Close. It's zillow.com. Zillow's really cool. You type in an address, and it generates an estimate of the home's value at that address. It also shows you the value of the surrounding homes on a map. You can even track price histories for individual houses and look at comparable homes' sales data. I highly recommend zillow.com.

The best place is Realtor.com. Do the sort based on zip code, put in your number of bedrooms and baths, and look at pictures for the best comparable properties.

Then, you can drive by the best 2 - 3 homes to make sure pictures are representative of the home being advertised.

Alternatively, you can find one of the six reputable real estate agents out there and have them tell you for a mere $100,000 sale's commission. :)

A really good website to browse local real estate/real estate agents is: http://www.idxbroker.com/news/256_IDX,_Inc._Introduces.php

just click on your state and you can check out local agents/homes/rentals without having to contact the realtor first.
It's really easy to navigate and is full of info about realtors with links to their personal websites (which should display all the available listings). Hopefully that works for you! Good Luck!
