It's a timeshare trip probably, where you go somewhere and listen to a boring sales pitch

Sounds like a just another one of the million scams daily. Any reputable company would have files, would need identification and all sorts of stuff before you could claim a prize. You better thank God that they either deliberately (I assume you are not the only person that ever happened to) or accidentally missed the past two numbers. And an answering machine relayed your information with such a tight deadline? Please: I have heard better ones than that. The best I encountered was a company that told me I won a Caribbean cruise. I played along until they wanted my credit card to pay for port charges. That is when the phone conversation got cut off--they might assume accidentally, but after three attempts to call me and they got my answering machine, they got the message. Welcome to the high- tech world of electronic spamming.

I hate to ask the obvious, but do you have Caller ID? You might be able to look at the call log on your phone to figure it out.

But chances are, you'll be disappointed when you call. It's probably either a telemarketer that will ask you to buy something first (i.e. buy a 7-night cruise and they'll give you free plane tickets) or a timeshare.

It's a scam anyway. Nothing is free. Unless you entered a contest, you haven't really won anything. They will ask you for money, and you won't really get the promised vacation. Trust me, this scam has even been on the news before.

It is just a way to get you to buy something anyway.
