I look at the sky, the clouds, the stars, the grass, the trees, the birds, the insects, a lazy cat sleeping, an energetic dog chasing a ball, children unknowingly basking in their innocence... so beautiful, the nature, and the way it is intended, then...
I see the people with their possessions and their fancy clothes: image coming before personality; people mocking others: sly judgement without interaction; people looking down on others: wealth meaning status...
I see the buildings, the roads, the cars, bus loads of people trekking back and forth not noticing the monotony, their real purpose to watch the game tonight, to beep at that other driver, to get some milk...
All around, the plastic, metal, rubber, man-made objects we are so proud of... and what then, when the world is all made of this and the last tree is felled, the last blade of grass concreted over, and the only bit of nature left is the sky, as we stare at it from our manufactured homes.
Will we not be happy until even that is taken from us: space stations lining the earth's orbit, maybe a roof to cover the earth... and then onto the moon, let us destroy everything real, hell why not destroy ourselves?
Yet man is already doing this. It starts with the hip replacements, the plastic limbs, test tube babies, human cloning, computers designed to mimic... how long before we too are just replicas?
There are no aliens, ghosts, witches, unicorns, goblins, elves, pixies, UFO's, magic powers, super heroes, toys that come alive, evil monsters, etc etc.
Nothing.
I mean, even Santa, the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy are made up stories to keep us sweet.
There is the nine to five, the daily grind, the bills, the shopping, night and day...
I just want to scream. Life is so false. Life is so boring. We are all just being manufactured, brainwashed... maybe no smarter than sheep. Baa.
But really, there is nothing remarkable because we are just used to it, and unfortunately there is nowhere to go.
This thing is called life which we must endure no matter how much it gets us down...
So do a good job knowing that despite the ungratefulness of others you yourself are grateful, that you appreciate what others do not care to even acknowledge; save your money, buy yourself a cottage in the middle of nowhere, give me a call, and we'll open a bottle of wine, watch the sunset and drink to nature.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm the loony who says "Thanks" to bus drivers when I get off their bus, and I wish others would do the same kind of thing to show that people in public service deserve recognition. As for the money-grabbing society we live in, it's the triumph of greed and self-assertion and the worship of possessions which in the UK became the State philosophy in the 1980s and has flourished ever since.
The only solution I can suggest is to ignore it and build your own life on a saner basis. If you're unhappy about the surrounding circumstances and you can't change them, change your attitude to them.
The sick people you work with have their own problems and have to focus on getting better, so don't be resentful if they seem to ignore you. You're already halfway there when you say you don't do your work for the money or for gratitude. Expect nothing and you will enjoy it all the more when you get something: a smile or a thank you. Emotion is all around if you lower your defences and let it in.

You do sound depressed, whether you admit it or not. They say the only people who would wish to travel to and live in space, are the ones who hate and want to escape their own existence anyway.
Try to look around you in your everyday life, and see the goodness in your family and friends, the love you share with them. And love yourself, so others can love you too when you sparkle. Some people really are diamonds scattered few and far between among the gravel. And they're taken so much for granted that others fail to even appreciate them (till too late).
You say you work with the sick all day. Believe me, they appreciate it. Without people like you willing to do the (really hard) work, we'd be living in a society where they'd probably be euthanised, or left to suffer. You sound like a really caring and sensitive person.
I wouldn't like to live on the moon. For one, I would miss the countryside, the birds, trees, animals, grass, bracken, nature; just the blossom of a wild and beautiful flower.
Look on the bright side of life..... (whistle)

Tomorrow is another day.....
Life IS one big roller-coaster, where we all have our ups and downs.
Also, it sounds as though you have alot of passion in your career. And you treat people the way you would like to be treated - you will be rewarded, maybe it isn't happening now, or tomorrow, but soon.... as what goes around comes around.
Your heart is like a twinking star in the big solar system, with so much going on around you. But you will be noticed, and things will get better for you, stay strong.
ps: I'm in England too, so if you ever need a chat or someone to talk to, send me a mail, nothing more, nothing less - we Brits have to stick together!! ;)

I'm getting on the same bus as you are and lets hope we can make it fly to the moon or beyond cause anywhere has got to be better than what is happening in our world right now, greed, hate, spite, grasping, ignorance, intolerance, deprivation and disgust.
Maybe the sick people you work with everyday are just so ill they have the same feelings as you and are just so tired or fed up and sometimes forget to say thank you for your kindness.

Darling I can't answer your question but love yourself and others will love you too.
I am sure the people you tend are very grateful for the help and comfort you give them but if they're ill they may not be able to express their gratitude. For all of them I will say thank you very much.
By the way i think you sound really lovely so put a smile on your face and be happy!!

Unfortunately, life is like a roller coaster. There are ups and downs, and you cannot get off until the ride is over. People who expect gratitude will usually be disappointed. If you change the way you look at life, your life will change. Albert Einstein said, "A human being is a part of a whole, called by us 'universe', a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." http://taobarbie.com

Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes. I want to just run though I feel that wherever I will go the crap from the world will remain in my head and come with me so I deal with it and stay true to my morals and spirit.
Sounds like your having a reality check. Don't give up your spirit - don't let them break you down. x
