It used to make it to the dark line right before the half tank if anybody know what I'm talking bout please give me some ideas before I bring it to the mechanic. And also how do I get my odometer off of trip miles it don't show the overall mileage just the trip miles i've accumalated.

It may be as simple as being overdue for a tuneup. I'd go ahead and have that done, along with changing the air filter (plugged ones reduce mileage). Also consider pouring in the occasional bottle of fuel injector cleaner every 3-4 tankfuls of gas.

As far as the trip odometer, you should have a little black stem right near where it is located on the dash. Tap it to change to the odometer reading. If you want to reset the trip meter to 0, just push and hold it in until it resets.

Hope this helped.

It never seems to amaze me how much people don't know about cars. And how much thy don't know about today's cars.
OK, here is something you can use.

If you have not changes your normal driving habits, then there is something wrong with the car.
So It could be the fuel pressure regulator. This device controls how much fuel the injectors spray. If it supplies to much fuel the mileage will go down. Is the service engine light on?
If the air filter is dirty, it to will cause the mileage to go down.
The filter prevents dirt from getting in the engine and traps it in the filter. Over time it becomes clogged and makes the engine suck harder to get air. This acts like a choke and makes the engine work harder.
The other answers will also help

Hope this helps in some way

Well, the trip odometer setting can be switched, just by pressing that little black plunger button, on the dash gauges itself. Also, have you considered a tuneup? As you didn't state how many miles your vehicle has, and may want to get your air filter checked. when the clog up, there goes your gas mileage. Was a different vehicle, but I did a tune up on my Bro's ranger, and changed the air filter(was filthy beyond belief), he was amazed by the power it had gained, and the much better fuel economy. I'd try those couple of things first.

There are so many things that can lower your gas mileage, but its to long so let someone you know look at that is car smart and or take it to an auto shop and let them look at it. Everyone else on here has given you a little on what some of the problems could be, but to truly know is to have a proffesional look at it.

The gasoline your using is one of the major factors. Use Shell gasoline w/ V-Power for a while, it'll help clean your system & give you better gas milage. Also It's most likely that your engine is dirty, there's probably a lot of grime inside it that doesn't allow the gas to fully combust good enough. Try some of those aftermarket cleaning products that you can add to gasoline. For now, use higher octane gasoline & good gasoline at that. Some people think that all gasoline is the same, but only companies like Exxon/Mobile, Texaco, and Shell have their own refineries & make their own gas. Everyone else depends on imported gas & oil that they bid out to the highest bidders... Also replace your air filter. There needs to be a clean mix of gas & air.

Could be the car is getting older. usually city driven vehicles experience this more than highway venhicles. Also, check your tire pressure to see if its where its supposed to be at (DONT over-inflate the tires either)

Thats my awsner

low tire pressure or uneven tire pressure, needs tune-up wheel bearings causing drag ..numerous things can cause rough fuel milage
