I have a Dell Laptop Inspiron 8600 and its the best laptop Ive had!!!
My gf got a Compaq from best buy and it broke on her. She turned it in for repairs and it took them 6mos to fix it! Plus they wiped her HD clean.
Dell has the best support (though sometimes when you calll at night the turn into foreigners) and service.

It depends on if you like Mac or PC. Im a Mac lover. Mac are expensive but you can get them used on ebay for aw low as like $300. With a PC you have to buy virus protection and spyware radar to look for anything that has infected yout computer. It also depends on what you will be using this computer for. If it's just for pleasure or school I totally suggest a Mac. If its for work, then I still suggest a Mac, but I wouldn't blame you if you got a PC. A new Mac laptops run from $1099 or $2799. A new PC is as low as $300. The $300 PC's are slow and they die. Not well manufactured and you will be dissapointed. My friend purchased a used iBook on eBay and she is very happy with it. I also suggest reading up on BestBuy.com for PC's and Apple.com for Macs. If you get a MAc you won't be dissaponted!

i have a toshiba .. hewlard packard is good but Dell has a recall on their laptops class action suit sadly as i have their desktop no problems but the batteries in the dells cause fires..

actually, i beg to differ. i have a dell inspironE1405 (yes-a laptop) and it is great for pix, music, and entertainment. i love it so much, and it was a great price too. so even if you THINK dell is stupid, try looking at their website. mine was a great deal too. so maybe give dell a second chance! i absolutley LOVE my laptop, but they have many diferent types for your diferent needs!
