Well I was wondering if anybody had any quick remedies for getting rid of coldsores. I got one on Sunday I know it's been 2 days and I really would like it to be gone by friday (it's my b-day) and I plan to be going out.

Anyways right now what i'm using is some astringent (using a cotton swab) and then applying toothpaste onto it (I read that toothpaste can speed up the time it takes to dry out). If anybody else has any remedies that would be great. thanks.

regular table salt, put some directly on the sore. it'll sting for a bit but it heals by the next day.

Im prone to coldsores and i find that drying them out helps get rid of them alot quicker. During the day i use witch stick which you can get from a chemist....it's about the size of a tube of lipstick and you can just dab the it on your coldsore but it will dry it out quickly. Also compeed coldsore patch is a little patch that you can out over the coldsore which helps me aswell. At night this might sound a bit strange...i put tootpaste on it which also helps dry it out but also stops it irratating you. I hope this helps!

for several years now I've been using a fabulous product called Shegoi. It's derived from the desert creosote bush and has been used by Native Americans for centuries. It comes in pills, a soothing lotion, and a penetrating spray. I use the lotion because it doesn't sting on an open sore. It's both anti-viral and anti-inflamatory so it stops ther herpes virus (the cause of cold sores) in its tracks. Also because it's anti-inflammatory you can use the penetrating spray on sprains or other aches and it will usually relieve pain and reduce swelling. They are based in Canada but the product ships out of NY. Here's their website http://www.shegoi.com/buynow.html. I'm not a distributor, just a customer who's used the products for years.

Abreva is the only cold sore treatment over the counter that shortens the healing time. Bottom line.
