I can't believe you guys.....obviously you either aren't Italian or
have never inter acted with an Italian family.
Yes, I can give you 100 reasons......
but here are my ten.
all I can tell you is about my family, friends and experience and
knowledge of being Italian.
1) My family (North and South) Italy.....is a very quiet, responsible, loving and genuinely kind bunch of people who
desire to give, love, and share their time and energy with
those who need it, when they could give, and who humbly
shared with many upon immigrating to this country. they celebrate life rich or poor and don't gripe about it.
2) All the Italian families I have met for the last 30 years
have put aside the "stereotyping"...." Italian.....must be
mafia....Italian must eat alot and be fat Italian......must be
loud and selfish
and put it aside. I ran a store in an Italian town in colorado
It is now voted to be the best city to live in....it is true.
It is a loving family town. It is Italians modesty and giving
without even letting others know.....that attracted me to
this side of town.
3) In Italy, Italians eat a lot of vegetables, and are very thin
their recipes in America.....are the same. My grandparents
owned and operated restaurants all of their life....and my grandfather
was the best chef....his cooking did not require twenty
spices.....his meals were known all over... the fat issue is
American....not Italian, nor any other nationality. But they make
the best food because it is passed down from Italy to be
healthy.......if you really cook Italian. I have a meat eater, a
vegan and a vegetarian family.....I can cook on a budget for
all of them....even my sister and daughter in laws.....yeh
4) the Italians brought the best art from world wide alive....
through out centuries.....wood carvers, sculpture, painting....
so many artists and films......look at it.....it is a revival time
for Italians.....it is.
5) what does Italy have that we don't? If you trace your
family history and go back on the family trees of History....
you will find civilation, retribution, forgiving, and loving people
go back to Peter and Paul. Catholicism goes back in time
to viewone of the greatest religions.....Italian Catholics even
here who are true to their teachings....know what to be a
Italian Catholic means. Catholic means one. Yeh folks...you
can right off all the rumors, the human things that happen in
any church.....but Italians that are true....sometimes leave the
church......but they never forget the discipline, the loving kindness,
and the forgiveness.....They realize that noone counted their money, their budgets before they helped one another.....but I am speaking from experience...cause Italians don't believe in
judging .....that is God's job.
6) When I was growing up, we all had our problems, but my Irish and Italian family sides....might have disagreed.....but as a
child.....we always got together and worked it out.....our big
Ethnic family gatherings....are the basis for my memries of
family......once of the most important things in life. My grandfather
welcomed any ethnic group......I mean any......at my father's
funeral....5,000 people came.....and he died when he was 30.
Yeh, it was that genuineness that I miss so much.....and am
looking to find again.
7) History 8) Preserving life for animals and every living thing.
9) Taking bad raps with humility...10) Italians....the best of everything.....!!!!!! the last people to gossip, to lie, or to turn away....even if it takes a lifetime of lessons to get there to voice
truths. It's what we call DECENT, Yeh Italians are DECENT!
