Hi.
Yes Dell is recalling 4.1 million batteries. Theare the batteries with sony cells. These are the laptops basically sold between 1 april 2004 to 18 july 2006. You can check if your battery needs a replacemnt or not.
Take out the battery from the system and put it a side in a cool dark place.
Look for the PPID number on the battery and
Go to this link:
https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/batterymodels.aspx
put the id on the webpage and it will tell u if the battery needs replacemnt or not.
If it does follow the procedure as on the webpage and order the same.
Dell Will send you another battery for the sysetm with the return airbill.. send the old one back..
This is all u have to do..
I hope this will help u......
:)

Dell is recalling the batteries from several series of their laptops. There has been some which have overheated and exploded. I'm sure Dell has it on their website.
I have an Inspiron 1000, and it's not on the list. However, several others are.
You need to check it out.

No, it's true. Worldwide Dell is recalling about 4.1 million (!) batteries from laptops. Get in touch with Dell to see if your grams' laptop also needs a new battery.

Plug the laptop into the charger, if it comes on and works high-quality then it is your battery, if it does not artwork then it is your charger. you will get the two from Maplin electronics.
