Download XP? That is probably impossible.

As for installing it once you "download" it, you don't need to remove ME, just install the disk and when it comes to it, remove the existing partition and recreate it.

Try linux instead, it's legal and free. Download from:

http://www.ubuntu.com/download

If you absolutely want Windows XP, you should get it from a legal source. As full prize is utterly ridiculous, there are three options.

1. Buy an upgrade from Microsoft.

I wouldn't recommend this, as those pesky upgrade disks needs a previous version installed. This means that if you're the kind that occationally reinstalls windows, you'll need to install windows twice each time.

2. Get a discount, such as a student discount.

This is cheaper, but not as much as you think

3. Get an OEM version.

Amazingly, windows is a lot cheaper when you get it with a new PC. But you don't have to buy a whole PC. Most dealers will let you have the OEM version as long as you buy *parts* for a PC. Maybe you *need* a new mouse as well?

You can of course also download windows illegally. Obviously this is illegal, but that's not why I don't recommend it. First of all, XP requires "activation" in order for you to use all the features, and get upgrades. Secondly, while I could understand the motivation back when Microsoft was a monopoly, today you have a perfectly OK alternative with linux, so morally it's also wrong. Thirdly, the OEM version really isn't that expensive!

You can't download Windows XP - you have to buy it. Put the Windows XP CD in your drive and restart your computer. Follow the onscreen directions to install XP.

Note: this will remove ALL files from your computer. Backup anything you want to keep BEFORE installing XP.

You can't download XP. You have to buy the CD. First you buy the XP disc, insert the disc, and then reboot the computer. When the windows xp blue setup screen comes up, you must then delete all partitions. Then create a new partition, format that partition, and install Windows XP on it.

Actually what you need to do is an update (at least that's what microsoft specifies windows xp is instalable over any older windpws) But you're gonna be better of formating the old windows partition and install windows XP on it.

You don't need to remove Windows Me unless there is something wrong with it, like a virus.
Just put the new disk in the cd drive and it should start the process.

If the computer is very old, then you may want to avoid that choice. Win XP has certain minimum hardware requirements. It you computer does not meet them, then save up and buy a new computer.

The MS web site says the requirements are: 64MB to 128MB of RAM, 1.5 GB of free disk space, and Super VGA (800x600) video.
