Because, like all chimps, they are not emotionally open enough to discuss their inner feelings with their spouses, and eventually cocoon themselves in a world of impassive silence. Even the most patient and loving husband or wife chimpanzee becomes weary from the strain of trying to rediscover the person he or she once married; and, lying awake at night, they wrongly blame themselves - taking entirely onto their own shoulders the pain of a bitterly failed relationship.
