I'd like to hear what the general public has to say about this natural herb before I go out and buy some. Also, is used mostly as a vitamin to prevent illnesses? can it be taken during the time someone has a sore throat?

Thanks everyone,
Dave

I have been taking two capsules of Echinacea for well over three years now at the recommendation of my son who said it will strengthen my immune system against disease and especially the common cold. Recently I read an article which said that the herb does nothing to affect the immune system. The fact is, I have not been sick, nor have I had so much as a cold since taking Echinacea three years ago. I am a 68 year old male, and I will take my experience over some report. I highly recommend the herb to you.

Chow!!

PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT TAKE ECHINACEA FOR MORE THAN TWO WEEKS AT A TIME.

The FDA is loathe to approve alternative drugs, but Echinacea has long been medically accepted in Europe and elsewhere as supporting your body's immune function.

At the first sign of a cold or flu, take:
1000 mg. Vitamin C, every 2 hours all day
2 Echinacea capsules, same schedule
1 zinc lozenge per day

By the following morning your symptoms should be gone. If not, continue the regimen for a second day. Note that Echinacea loses its effectiveness when taken over long periods. Use it only when you feel an illness coming on, and discontinue when symptoms disappear.

I try and take echinacea as soon as I detect a sore throat or a cold coming on. Sometimes it stops right there and other times I get a full blown cold so I am not sure what helps but I take it anyway. It does not harm.

I have found echinacea to be an excellent addition to the flu season arsenal.

Though you might want to avoid it if you are allergic to the daisy family.

Avoid it if you have some form of autoimmune desease, AIDS,HIV,coolagen deseases and leukcocytosis, multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus, or tuberculosis
