Read Philosophy, Plato, Aristotle, all the great thinkers throught the ages, as wise men come every once in a while. Combine this with the knowledge of history- of the world and the great civilisations as history repeats itself, a knowledge of the most influential men in history will help, a great book by Michael H. Hart. Another important aspect will be that of science- Human body, genetics, solar system, etc.. I am not saying you have to be an expert in any of these subjects but to know enough, and more importantly to understand.
Lastly an understanding of all the major beliefs, and how they are related to each other. Buddhism, Hindusim, Chrtistianity, Judasim, Islam, Taosim, etc.

This is what I believe may set you on your way:
Never stop wanting to learn.
Never stop reading - read everything you can - newspapers, websites of interest.
Always ask questions. Always ask questions until you are satisfied with the answer. Ask anything you like. Whatever you need to know. Ask the 'daftest' of questions and ask questions you already know the answer to - just to get an idea of what others believe and think.
Listen.
Listen to the radio.
Listen to a variety of radioshows on a wide range of topics. I suggest Radio 5 Live. Also, more subject specific shows.
Do no listen to just a certain type of music. Listen to rock to classical to jazz to experimental.
Don't just listen to what other people working in the media would have you believe is the 'right thing' to listen to.
Listen carefully to what everyone you speak to or hear, has to say - what their opinions are, their views, their thoughts.
Be understanding. Live with empathy and in some cases, sympathy. Thrive on learning.
Take an interest in Religion, Ethics, Philosophy, Conspiracies, Psychology, Sociology, Love and relationships between friends and family. Take a deep interest in life.
You don't have to believe in GOD or after life or believe in anything that you are told to believe. Before you can truly become part of something you have to understand it - so explore all your options - all opinions and all choices.
Cherish the small things in life. Look out of your window at night and just stare up at the dark sky - many a thoughts will appear in your mind - thoughts you didn't realise were there - just whilst looking up at the wonderment of the sky. Sit outside in your back garden or take a light walk when it's warm and just take in the sun - value it - think of how fortunate you are - to be breathing and basking in such wonderful summer air whilst others not far may be in tragic circumstances.
Talk. Ask. Listen. Learn. Acknowledge. Appreciate. Write - try poetry - it doesn't have to ryhme - just write a journal then pick out sentences that mean something to you and then put them together.
We are surrounded by people. They think. They 'know'. They love and they hate. To be wise - you must understand.
This may take days, weeks, months, years and you may be much older when you understand who you are and what you want. Do not preach unless asked of your opinion and only give it when you are truly sure of what it is you are willing to say.
Hope I've helped - some may not understand my thoughts and sometimes, even I cannot make out what it is I wish to say but this is how I try to live and being wise it what I wish to accomplish - good luck on your journey xx

Through experience and listening to other wise people. It is also said to come with age, hence the experience.
Wisdom is far different and superior to knowledge, knowledge is just knowing facts. You can read all of the books in the world, but through that way you will not gain wisdom. Wisdom is what makes a genius a genius. As Salvador Dalí said, if you pretend to be a genius then people will believe you that you are one.

If you're interested in being wise, I am afraid that can only come by through experience and making mistakes in your life. No one can learn wisdom through books or study. However, through books and study, you can acquire knowledge, achieve understanding, and master logic and reason. This is the first step in becoming wise.
