They have come out with Cellular Wireless Data cards, the prices have come down but still expensive. We use the verizon ones for offsite workers they cost $200 for the card and $50 a month. That way they can VPN in from the remote location and get their work done. This would allow you an internet connection but you would not be attached to the companies network. If you need that capability check with your systems admin.

The other thing is to check company policy, for example we do not allow staff to bring their computers from home and use our network (don't want those malware infested computers on our network).

Get permission and help to get on the secured wireless system. Otherwise, a cell phone network based system using a special laptop PC card is the way to go. And it isn't cheap!

If you have cell service, you should be able to obtain a wireless card from your cell service provider so that you can connect your laptop to the Internet using your cell service.

Sure, but they don't have Internet capability. You need some kind of connection. Unless you can link with a satellite or a land line of some sort, it ain't gonna happen.

Then again... technology marches on...!

Surprised you have not heard 802.11a/b/g standard; pick a USB or PCMCIA adapter in a shop near you.
