8 tons is 16,000 lbs

In scientific notation that would be 1.6 X 10 ^ 4th.

That's about as exponential as this problem gets.

If we ignore the idea that a Ton in the USA is 2000lbs, and a Ton overseas is 2200 lbs (or 1000 kilos) And we toss out the information that a kilo is a measurement of mass, where a pound is a measurement of wieght (measure of pull of earth's gravity on the object in question)

And we just take that number : 8 ; your exponential form would be, 2^3 (where the little ^ symbol tells you to take the next number and make it tiny and move it to the top right of the first number when you write it down)

2 x 2 = 4, x2 = 8 so 2 x2 x2 or 2 to the third power is 8.

cheers.

It's easy to confuse scientific notation with LogFunctions and Exponential form... Mostly because you learn about scientific notation towards the end of your schooling, and you completely forget about all that exponent conversion you do in algebra.

Well 1 tonne equals one megagram in metric (aka 1000 kilograms). Thus 8 tonnes would be 8.0 x 10^3 kilograms in scientific form.

wow.

well if you put the tons in pounds that is

16,000 pounds = 8 tons (english)

so that would be 1.6 X 10^4 or 1.6E4

if you put it in metric

8000 kg = 8 metric tons

so it would be 8E3 or 8 X 10^3
