Whoa, there's a lot of misinformation here!

First, as you have been informed numerous times, Rosa Parks is indeed dead, but that has nothing to do with the court case. She died October 25th, 2005. The lawsuit with Outkast was settled on April 15th, 2005 - so, several months before she passed away.

As to the suing itself - it's well-known that the Parks family was worried that Rosa's lawyers had thought up the lawsuit in a way to make some money (they asked $5 billion from Outkast and the record label!) and the lawsuit did not represent the real wishes of Rosa Parks. When the court case was settled, money was paid out to Parks and the lawyers, but it was better publicized that money was given to support educational programs at the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development.

I think that Outkast expected their song would meet with approval, since it made popular an amazing historical event in the black civil right's movement. I'd imagine they were shocked to have Rosa Parks herself seem to oppose it.

If that's how they felt, I agree. The song does not insult or defame Rosa Parks, and doesn't even specifically mention her name except the song title. I think that when black music becomes more and more consumed by white ideals (money, sex, and power) that it's really refreshing and impressive to have a song that deals with a noble moment in black history.

And I find it pretty unlikely that an activist like Rosa Parks wouldn't see that, without the manipulation and spin of a bunch of lawyers who saw dollar signs instead of the First Amendment.

If anything should have been done, Outkast should have realized they're in a country that loves lawsuits, and sent a copy to Rosa Parks for approval first.

At that time Rosa was so "out of It" she probably had no idea there was even a law suit. She was just too old. Her mind was gone. The poor woman died poor. I'm sure it was a gun ho attorney's idea. My point don't blame Rosa blame the legal game.

I don't think it was right. And the fact is, it wasn't her, specifically, which leads one to believe it is only (as usual) about the money. It reminded me of the line in Barbershop when Ced' says Rosa was just girl who was tired, she wasn't trying to make a point. Do you remember how much discussion that statment created?

Yes. I dont blame her she did an honorable thing to make the stand she did 50 years ago. And OutKast's lyrics cheapened it.
