Anyone who knows anything understands that tires are under immense pressure and that the few extra pounds of pressure delivered by a swift kick will not change anything. If a tire is flat or losing pressure it will be apparent simply by eyeballing it. Yet people still kick it expecting something spectacular to occur. If anyone out there can kick the air out of a tire I would pay good money to see that. Should any of you ladies out there happen to view your man doing this he is probably trying to act as if he knows something about cars. The same goes for a man opening the hood only to realize he has no idea what any of those parts actually do. Under either circumstance I would point and laugh in his face, then call me.

Great question. I guess it's a man's thing. I don't understand it myself. On the other hand, I don't kick tires either.
Here's another man's thing I've verified in the field...
Get a small group of men standing around some sort of elevated object like log, a brick pile, even the bumper of a truck, talking. Put your foot up on the object and observe what happens. Within 120 seconds every man will put their foot on the object. It's crazy!

Why do you sit around waiting on a man to kick a half flat tire instead of getting off your butt and pumping it back up?

For the same reason we raise the hood when the car won't start, and stare at the engine. If another man shows up, we say "I used to know how to work on these, but with all the computers today..." and shake our head. The other man will agree, and stare at the engine. Then we will have a beer.

To see how much pressure is in the tire. If is is obviously flat by looking at it, there is really no need to kick it except for fun.

Most often it's done by a man that knows nothing about cars in an effort to convince the seller he does knows about cars.
It also works much like a comb over on a bald man. the only person convinced is him.

Hmm, depends on if it were actually flat or not. It could look low, because of how much stuff he might have in his vehicle. But other than that...Is probably his habit as a trucker.

it's actually out of habit. even though they know they don't need to do it, they still will. it's like when you see someone get in a really bad accident or fall, what's the first thing you ask them? "are you okay?" you know they're not but you ask anyways right? same principle here. probably somethnig their daddy taught them to do as well.
