In the US, drinking isn't acceptable if you are under 21. In places like Sweden, drinking is socially acceptable at the young age of 14!

Depending on the parenting style these couples have, bringing children into a bar and drinking is up to them!

This is a social and cultural issue.

I do believe that parents should tell their children that if they do go out and drink to call them for a ride home and to NOT drive themselves. Children are going to drink if they want to. Leave the door open to them...

A restaurant with a bar is acceptable to take a child. I would try and get a seat away from the bar, but usually people are not dancing on the tables at a restaurant bar. Plus, I am talking about more family-style places (like Chili's or Outback).

But children should not go into a bar that is simply a bar (sole reason is to serve alcohol). As a matter of a fact, it should be illegal.

And of course drinking and driving is never OK, with kids or without.

Children shouldn't be let in bars b/c the people in the bars don't want to be around children. If they did then they would go to Chuck E Cheeses and get a beer there. The only thing worse than parents that let their kids run around in a bar is a parent that lets a crying baby into a movie theater.

No I don't. But in restaurants with bars, it is also similar if the waiter brings the drink to the table you are sitting at as well. So either way the kids are going to see their parents drink. My opinion - be a role model for your kids. If you drink, do it in moderation and make a point of teaching your children the disadvantages of overdoing it. Best wishes =)

From personal experiance as a kid i know seeing parents drink and drive is not an ok feeling at all. As long as the parents are not at the bar and are in the resteraunt having a family meal it is ok

I grew up spending a lot of time in bars - drinking underage too with my Dad. I defended it until I reached about 30. I thought it was cool, but as I got older I realized that it didn't teach me to drink responsibly - it really didn't do anything for me at all.

Now that I have kids - the only thing that we drink at our house is an occasional Bailey's and maybe a beer at a barbecue.

Well I used to go to the bar or restaurants where alcohol is served and I turned out fine. I know better than to drink and drive... I guess it just depends on the parents and how responsible they are around there children. Drinking in front of your kids doesn't mean they are irresponsible.
Bad example? Please.

In some states, children are not allowed to sit at the bar no matter what time of day it is. I don't think it is a good idea for the children to see that at all.

I used to live in Door County, Wisconsin. I told the bartender that some of the kids there were underage--I was a teacher at Southern Door Schools then. He said that if he didn't serve the kids, the parents wouldn't come in. They had a CB radio so they knew when the police were coming.

This was in the 70s but I bet it is still happening.

Umm...You weren't very specific with your question. I mean drinking and driving is it's own issues. It would be encouraging for a child to see adults ,odel how designated driving is done. Afterall wherever my family and I go, Dad(my husband) is always free to drink. He never drinks to exess and I drive. Bad examples are everywhere.....then again so are good examples.
