France sells arms to both sides. France is very active in the Arab countries as well as Israel.

Lebanon has been a French protectorate until 1943, and is still influent there (there are still quite many French speaking people in Lebanon). Furthermore, there are many people from Lebanon that came in France in the 70s, and which have now both nationalities.
Moreover, France has a big Jewish community (as well as a big Muslim one), that may also explain the links with Israel.

Lebanon was once a colony of France. In the same way the US backs Jews in Israel as a counterwieght to Arab Nationalist movements.
France attempted to back Christian Maronites in Lebanon to get a foothold there.
You'll also notice that France was involved in the US re-occupation of Haiti. They also once occupied Haiti.

Because France has a large Lebanese population. Remember most of the Middle East was carved up between Britain and France so they are to blame for a lot of the problems we are seeing now.
