Does it hurt? Yes. To what degree depends on the location and size of your tattoo. I have four tattoos, and the hardest one to get was on my spine. It is also my biggest, so it took an entire hour of work to do. Some take even more. My latest is on my ankle and its just a simple black outline of a dove, so it only took 5 minutes and seemed like a breeze. The pain of tattoo is not something that you can block out, or get used to. It's like a razor blade, and you are fully aware of the pain the whole time. Also, don't try to numb the pain by boozing it up, it thins your blood and it will hurt anyway.

Also, when ever I decide on a tattoo, i put it somewhere I have to look out every day.... if you still like it in 6 months, get it. Just remember that its permenent, get something meaningful that will be worthwhile 10 years from now.

Getting a tattoo is good. You ask if it hurts. The answer is it just matters on where you are planning on getting it. It hurts the most on your back and inside of your arms. Plus a tattoo with alot of detail hurts more than others. Its not so much the pain but the soreness afterwards.

I am 24 years old. I don't have any tatoo's myself, but I have been considering getting one for a few years. I just want to say that a tatoo is a life decission, and life changes all the time! If you think that you want to get a tatoo I would suggest thinking about it for a long LONG time before you make your decission. If it is of something you like now, you may not like it when you're 50, or 80, but it will still be there. I am told that it feels like a lot of little stings, it doesn't sound too painful, but it does of coarse cause some pain.

It hurts, and it doesn't, more when the outline is first started. Choose an area with a lot of fatty tissue, it will be less painful, stay away from boney areas. My first was on my breast, second below the navel and third on my lower back. I don't think any of them were to painful. Easier than a piercing.

I personally havn't had one but I watched my friend do it and she said that the only part that hurt was when it was close to the bone. If there is a lot of tissue or fat where you want it than it shouldn't hurt at all.

I completely agree with Bri W ... yes, it hurts... but that's part of its magic... hehehe I mean, it's something worthwhile... it's forever. In my case, I have 6 and I can tell you what was happening in my life, who I was with, how I was feeling and exactly what each of them mean in my life. Make sure you can picture yourself with that image in that place of your body when you're 65 and wrinkly ;-) If you can live with that idea, then go ahead and enjoy it!!!

It depends on where you get it at. Anywhere over bone hurts like a mother you know what. arms are okay(upper arms) or breasts don't hurt too bad... just sting.

if you pick one out of their books you won't like it,
usually if you bring a photo or something, then you'll like/love it... if you're obsessed with a certain band, that'd be a great idea, or some kind of symbol or something...
As for it hurting, if you can stand a needles poking your skin, then, nope, no pain, no gain really.
