I can! I can do a whole lot more than that. My mom was a mechanic and she taught me how to work on just about everything on the '78 Mustang I had as my first car (still miss that car - passed it on to my nephew when he got his license). She wanted me to be able to do it myself; and I'm glad she did (plan to do the same with my 2 boys and 2 girls)! I even worked as a mechanic in a well known chain of garages. The customers thought it was a real hoot that they had a woman working in the garage and a guy as the secretary! LOL That was probably the job I had that was THE most fun for me! I'd love to go back some day, after the kids are all in school.

There are probably as many women that know how to change their oil as there are men. You have no idea how many of my friends have asked my to change their oil for them. I use this opportunity to "teach them how to fish." It doesn't always go as smoothly as planned. The only thing I require of my buddies is that they go to the store and buy a new oil filter and dispose of the oil when I'm done. You have no idea how many of them come back with a filter that isn't designed for their automobile. Then once they have gotten the correct one and I have finished the job, they take the old oil and throw it in the trash. I'm not sure who told them this was an ok practice, but oil must be taken to a gas station or disposal facility. What would take me thirty minutes to complete has now taken two hours, and they will probably call me next month asking me to do it again. Maybe I should just "catch the fish for them." These days it seems like more women are learning, while more men aren't.

Until I got a Volkswagen I changed the oil in my cars. VW's are too low to the ground for me to do it at home.

A very good friend of mine used to take me to the car club every weekend to do maintenance on my car. He taught me all kinds of stuff and I got a lot of work done on my car through him. Brakes, oil changes, shocks, differential, spark plugs, and more. Thanks Larry!

I do, I can also change my own tire, spark plugs, battery. The preventive maintenance stuff is pretty easy. We don't need a man for everything.

Pick up the phone, schedule an appointment, and drive to the mechanic.
I guess I could learn if I had to. But, I don't really care.

Quite a few I imagine. It's a good thing to know when you can't afford quick lube places!

I know how, but I can't do it- my back and neck won't let me get under the car! At least I'm smart enough to get it done regularly....oh, that reminds me...
