I am curious to find out if anyone else has been afraid to hear or see the heartbeat for the first time? I am 9wks and won't get ultrasound or doppler until 12wks but I feel anxious as the time gets closer..like I am afraid that they won't be able to see or hear a heartbeat, is it normal to be afraid of everything the first semester..it seems like a have a new fear each week and does it get easier the 2nd trimester?

It is completely normal to be afraid of things during your pregnancy. In my opinion, it gets easier as the time passes and you get further along.
Expect to possible have bad dreams (not tryign to scare you), about hurting your baby or forgetting abotu them in teh car, or losing them, etc. This is all natural and normal. Once you see the heartbeat/hear the heartbeat you will begine to realize that that little lifeform in your tummy is a pretty strong little thing and just because you do somethign doesnt mean you are hurting it in anyway.

I can understand why you are afraid to get that ultrasound. Just please be aware, that just because you will be far enough along to hear the heartbeat...you may not. They may not beable to find the baby's heartbeat. Thtas not very uncommon. It doesnt mean the baby doesnt HAVE a heartbeat...it just means that the baby could be positioned in a way that they cant find it. So dont worry. If anythign was happening to your pregnancy (ex: misscarriage), they woudl know by the levels in your blood tests...not by the lack of a heartbeat.

Once you hear that little beat, you will be so thrilled (at least I hope you woudl be)...I am almost 14 weeks now, and the further alogn I get, the more relaxed I am abotu everything...not so much worrying abotu every little thing. :)

Good Luck.

I can understand where you are coming from. I am 10 weeks pregnant and I am always relieved to hear the heartbeat when I go to the doctor. It freaks me out when it takes a while for them to locate it. I remember my first baby when I was further along, I would always freak out if I didn't feel her move. But now she is a healthy four year old. So if you are a first time mom or in your early trimester then it is perfectly normal to be anxious about everything. 95% of the time everything is normal. So just relax and take care of yourself in the meantime and STOP WORRYING MOM! Take care. Oh and take your vits.

I was terrified with my son that i would not hear the heartbeat and i too had a new fear every week. Things will ease up for you, it may take a few more weeks--i felt better once i could feel him move every day---- just try not to worry things will be fine and remember you can't fix or prevent anything bad by worring......good luck and best wishes

I am 31 weeks along and the first time I heard my baby`s heart beat i just cried. Don`t be afraid, it`s one of the most beautiful thing you will experience, it`s normal to be anxious. Maybe you should take the baby`s father or someone close to you to your next appointment. Hearing the heart beat, brings it home that there is a real live person inside of you, that`s amazing!!

It will be to early to hear a heartbeat w/the Doppler. If they do a vaginal ultrasound at your first appointment, they may or may not be able to see the heartbeat. I was pregnant w/twins and went in a 6.5 weeks. They could only see the heartbeat for one twin, but in two weeks they could see both. I now have healthy twins. So don't stress if they don't see a heartbeat. It might just be a wee bit early....

Everything is scary in pregnancy, especially in the first trimester when you hear all of the talk of miscarriages. It is only you wanting the very best for your baby. Try to relax, everything will be fine.

Afraid of hearing it would be weird... you are actually afraid of *not* hearing it, which is perfectly normal
