I believe it to be that his short term memory was altered by when he and his wife was attacked. He could not remember anything over an hour old so that is why he tattoed all those things on his body

Its not a disease. Its a fictional condition caused by a hit on the head. I don't think its named, but it means that he can't form new memories.
