i've had catheters when i've had surgery. usually they're put in while you're asleep, but i was awake once when it was done and it was slightly uncomfortable being inserted, but once in the bladder, i couldn't really tell it was even there

Hell yes, they hurt! I had one when I had my 16 year old. I thought I was going to die. If I had not been in so much pain, I would have kicked the doctor, but it hurt too bad.

They are a bit uncomfortable when put in.
Normally they are put in when you are asleep.
If it suctions to your bladder wall, it can hurt.
Sometimes when being removed it can hurt.
Hope this helps.
