Although I can understand your question because people have been giving such brief answers seemingly to get a couple points, I have a good reason.

Last night I was up late and bored and wanted to ask and answer some questions just for kicks. Unfortunately, at that time I was Level 1 and unable to post anything else -- I had shot my load for the day! Although I have no plans to become a Level 16 Elf Yahoo Mage or whatever some people are hoping for, collecting enough points to be Level 2 gives me a bit more freedom. :-)

For me its climbing the "levels" even through there is no real benefits other then being able to feed the Yahoo answers addictions a little more with each level reached LOL..

Free upgrades to 1st class at Yahoo. Discounts at Yahoo, and certainly the knowledge that you, and no one else in the whole world, got those 2 particular points. IF anyone wants some points, they can have buckets of mine...I earned mine by totally wasting my time answering questions like this, they can have them.

Well every time I answer a serious question; I'm hoping that someone will gain knowledge and make a good decision. Receiving a best answer is higher expression of thanks. The two point deal; is just a way to get our participation interestedly.

I don't really care about points, but when I click a topic and I think it's stupid I just rate it bad, but most times I try to answer because I enjoy answering people's questions about stuff.

Most people here just post to get points, every little bit they get gets them closer to the next level. It's just a status symbol.

Oh, its because the second that you get to 1000000 points yahoo will give you the answer to who the guy was that was responsible for braking the main footing that caused Atlantis to sink.

The points add up. And you want to increase your level. It is something to do. Now can I have 10 points for being nice about it?
