Do you ever do any research on TripAdvisor? They have a Wiki page about Family Travel that I've contributed information to before. That page is located here http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g35805-s401/Chicago:Illinois:Family.Travel.html

Personally I'd recommend taking your child to Navy Pier where you can walk, bike, see an IMAX movie, visit the Shedd Aquarium (Biggest Indoor Aquarium in the World) and ride some of the Navy Pier rides, too. http://www.navypier.com/

The Children's Museum is also located at Navy Pier and has special areas for children up to the age of 10 (kids any older will prefer museums like The Field, I think). http://www.chichildrensmuseum.org/

The Lincoln Park Children's Zoo is one of the only free zoos left e in the country and is a must see, especially because of it's desirable location. http://www.lpzoo.com/index2.html

If you were thinking you'd like to go to a themepark during your stay, Six Flags Great America can fill an entire day. I especially suggest this park if your child is a fan of rollercoasters (and old enough to ride them). http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatamerica/

You also can get a number of these attractions on the Go Chicago Card which has kids and adult pricing. You get to bypass some lines (Great when you're traveling with kids in tow) and save a little money too. http://www.gochicagocard.com

Kids like the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Sears Tower

Walk up and down North Michigan Avenue and shop, eat and see the architecture.

Take the boat tour of the river, or better yet, of the lake front.

Field Museum is neat if you like mummies and dinosaur bones, walk across the street to the Aquarium too.

Definately spend some time in Millenium park.

How old is the kid? And is it a girl or a boy? If they're a teenager, he or she might be bored with the Arch. tour and even the zoo (Oh, look there's a lion sleeping... um, like wow).

Look into getting tickets for a baseball game. With two teams, one of them is bound to be in town. Check online first with the respective teams. They may have a few tickets left.

There's a place called "Escape" on north Halsted street that is a video gamers paradise. They sell a lot of extra gadgets and games for video systems, but the highlight of the place is the private gaming rooms where you can kick back on special seats and play the newest games on the most high tech equipment (plasma big screen TVs, etc.) I don't know how much it costs per hour but I'm sure they have a website.

They might like the Imax theater at Navy Pier. They usually show mainstream movies that are also in the regular theaters but on a ginormous Imax screen it's completely different. There's also an Imax screen at the Museum of Science and Industry but they mostly show docmentary science-y stuff (of course). still cool though.

I being from Chicago know that you are referring to the ARCHITECTURAL TOUR available downtown (not the Arch in Saint Louis you 'tards!)... I would suggest that you go to Navy Pier with your child or the free zoo downtown, Brookfield zoo if you feel like paying... There are several children's museums as well... I think there's one near downtown in Evanston. If you have a little girl (or I guess some boys could be into this too) there is a American Girl Place downtown as well. Have a great time!

if you go to the Museam of Science and industry (which is in Hyde Park), there's a place you should eat at. I live in Hyde Park and go the University of Chicago. The University is something to see (It's quite pretty), but maybe boring. Anyway, on 57th and Kenwood there's this place called medici's. IT"S SOOOO GOOD!!! Plus super kid friendly. You can write on anything! The place is one big
Bob Loves Betty, or Jack was here etc...Bring a sharpie! Plus the milkshakes and pizzas are THE BEST!!! Get the apple or pecan pie. I'm hungry now.

Look it up on metromix.com (our chicago enterntainment page) or email me for directions.

This place is so worth it after walking around the museum. You'll need a pick me up! (It's also a coffee shop).

Before I start, Arch tour = Architectural tour (for those that thought you were referring to the St. Louis arch).

These are some must-do's for families:
- Navy Pier (Children's Musem, IMAX theatre, various rides, etc).
- Baseball game (White Sox or Cubs)
- Musem Campus (Shedd Aquarium, Field Musem, & Adler's Planetarium)
- Musem of Science & Industry (AWESOME IMAX, Coal Mine exhibit, etc.)
- North Avenue Beach (bring swim suits)
- Sears Tower observatory (or John Hancock building)
- Shopping on the "Magnificant Mile" (Michigan Avenue). Girls will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE American Girl Place.
- Chinatown
- Little Italy
- Greek town
- Lincoln Park Zoo (or Brookfield Zoo, but that's in the burbs)
- Bicycle ride along the 30+ mile lakefront bike path (fun bikes can be rented at Navy Pier)

There are two children's museums in Chicago. There is one downtown at Navy Pier and there is also one in suburban Wilmette called the Kohl's Children's Museum. Wilmette is about 10 or so miles north of Chicago. The two museums are both good.

If your child is young, he or she may enjoy Kiddieland at North Avenue and First Avenue in Maywood, which is a western suburb about 6 miles from downtown. Older children would enjoy Six Flags Great America, which is in Gurnee and about 35 or so miles north of Chicago.
