mean that the government would also expect women to give birth to lots of children (and taking the sons for the purpose of conscription)? This must be the main reason they opposed women going into the military for so long. How else are they going to get more cannon fodder for their wars? It almost parallels the situation in much of the Islamic world where women are second class citizens and expected to breed prolifically so that Islam will rule the world (not all Muslims feel this way though). Also this was the primary goal of Hitler's 'master race' ideology. Does anyone else see the link here, between goose-stepping nationalism, religious fanaticism, and male chauvinism?

Yes, there is a link here, its called using hate and indifference rather than love as ones major motivations. That the human race is imperfect and never will be perfect has been ignored far too long and every rule we follow should have a clause to allow an escape. Now that would make this hateful ball of dirt exciting, don't you think?

No, sorry. Don't see much of a connection.

Many countries have compulsory service, including the former USSR. They didn't expect women to turn into baby factories and even took extreme measures to prevent premarital sex!

BTW, I was strongly recruited by the armed forces for my computer skills, but got turned down when I applied for a field combat position. Back in the 80's, women in "combat" meant on the battle field - not in the military in general.

You're walking down the sidewalk, and you see a
female you talk to sometimes standing near two
men fighting each other with knives. One man
slashes the female with his knife, she falls to the
ground. The men run away. You go to see how
she is doing. As you kneel beside her, and take
her hand you discover she's dead. What do you
do? You know this woman. She's like a friend, and
she's a woman.
You grieve.
That why more women in some countries don't
go into battle. Men grieve over them longer at a
risk to their own lives.
