It is judged by the side who wrote it. No history is completely unbiased unless it is written by an uninvolved party. And the history of a war or conflict is almost always written by the winners of that war or conflict so the recorded history of the event will be biased in their favor.

You can usually conclude that whoever wrote it is going to give an account biased to their side.
