Evolution is continuous graduated process. This means that we won't know what we have evolving into, until we have evolved into it. We may well not even realize that until we look back and see what has changed.

"We" is the wrong term. Evolution doesn't have mass transit. Evolution is an individual phenomenon. Some evolve and some don't. The answer depends upon what you want. The human form of life gives us the opportunity to go higher in this material world, sink lower into animal consciousness or become qualified to get out of this material world altogether.
Until we get out of the material world there is always the chance of devolving into lower consciousness. Its a fallacy to think that there is no falling down from human consciousness. There are specific recommendations mentioned in the Vedas for those who want to go to higher realms of consciousness. The Bhagavad-gita will give you some hints about these. The soul is pure being –Â pure self. As such, it can't possibly evolve. But maybe the relationship of the conscious mind to the soul can grow stronger and more complex. If so, we'd be evolving into more complete human beings. That's good enough for me.

evolution is still happening, hopefully we'll evolve into people who don't feel the need to harm others. This earth can be paradise if we all work together to make it a better world. Consciousness seems to be coming around to higher thinking instead of mere survival. Our souls are the same no matter what age we are, that flame of energy that makes us alive. Hopefully it won't take a few million more years...

Sad to say most souls evolved into human forms. Eventually, we will all be juz human forms void of souls. We may still have the means and the time to reverse the runaway cosmic process of backward evoution, it's just a question of 'HOW?.' Maybe, staying away from politicians is one.

Evolution simply means change. It doesn't have a goal or final state. The only time we would cease to change or stop evolving is if we became extinct!
