Civilization is neither lie nor excuse, it's an accomplishment. Unfortunately, our selfish natures often put that accomplishment at risk.

You're essentially decrying our nature by suggesting that the human race can "overcome" anything. It's a little like bewailing the fact that cats cannot overcome their predatory nature.
That's not to suggest that human beings acting like uncivilized monsters is either inevitable or even excusable (it is neither). Rather, your question invalidates human nature. We are territorial by nature (otherwise, we wouldn't have nations or tribes or street gangs).
Your question also tends to suggest a certain duality; that there are brutish thugs disguised as human beings and then there are saintly, etheral creatures also disguised as human beings. Debates like this can go on forever but really detract from the whole issue.
You seem to be at a point in your life where you are asking some very important questions about the nature of humanity and I would strongly adivse you to continue your studies there. In the meantime, the only thing you yourself can do is to ensure that you always act in a way that brings no harm to anyone - and I mean NO harm to ANYone. That is tougher to do sometimes but you sound like a mature enough person to at least give it the ol' college try!

I think the definition of civilization changes as time changes. Are we more civilized than 100 years ago ? 1000 years ago ? I say yes.
One can start to talk about being civil if other basic needs for survival are fullfilled, ( like food, shelter, etc ). Consider we still have of plenty of people around the world living way below poverty line, so call being civilized may not be the highest priority.
If there is certain standard that our generations has not met yet, give us some more time. We can be there, if we can get those greedy selfish bastards( corrupted politician and leaders ) out of the way.

Why do you feel that an animalistic nature is something to be "overcome?" I fail to understand how posters here often write about nature being so great, and that humans and the environment would be better off if society looked to the animal kingdom on how to live in harmony with nature, and then in the same breath decry how we are to much "like animals."
You can't have it both ways. Either we should behave like animals or we shouldn't; which is it???

Civilization is a goal and a hope. It is a way to fight against our animalistic nature.

As with so many other questions here, you ask for agreement with an absurd proposition and and a more absurd conclusion.
