Since no one was expecting it, there was no alert fighters.

For you civilian types, there are several differnt types of alerts.
Alert 60: Most common. It means that the planes and pilots have 60 minutes from the time they get the word to be in the air ready to intercept the threat.

Alert 30: What you will commonly see in places that are considered hostile, but not firing. planes are fueled and loaded, Pilots have 30 minutes from the time of the call to the time they leave the ground.

Alert 15: Pilots are briefed and ready to go. Planes are fueled, armed and in the hangar. ready for launch.

Alert 10 or 7: I"ve seen both. Usually the pilot is in the plane ready to go at a moments notice.

There are three kinds of ignorance. I have the first two kinds on different subjects. That is understandable, as we cannot know everything. The third is duplicitous and should not be tolerated.

1. Having never been exposed to the information. For example, I do not know how to speak Urdu. I haven't had the opportunity to learn it.

2. Having the opportunity but not taking it. For example, I do not speak Italian. I could have learned it in school, but chose not to.

3. Faking lack of knowledge. When I don't know something, I admit it. However, I generally don't pretend to not know something I do know. For example, I'd never ask your questions. I know that the US did not let it happen. I know that the USAF was not commanded to stand down.

Which is your ignorance?

You need to understand the history of hijacked planes. We've had numbers of them. No one ever flew them into buildings. The confusion and shock of the first plane was thought first to be an accident. This made it easy for the 2nd. The jets had been scrambled on the one headed for the pentagon but they didn't get there in time. The one in Penn was in the air long enough for people to get calls in and out, that is why they passengers took action. In the old days of hijacks, typically it was only a major delay in your schedule. The terrorist used this knowledge to keep folks calm.

You're confused Tom, the planes were 18 minutes apart. Until the second crash everyone assumed it was just a plane crashing into the building, no indication there was a plot going on.

In the period between Ronnie Reagan winning the Cold War and 9-11 there were no routine fighter patrols over the US.

When the second plane hit the other tower, the morning news shows and the US military were still wondering if this was a tragic accident and only beginning to consider an act of malice. Only after the second plane hit did everyone start thinking "this is an attack".

They call it a "Surprise Attack", like Pearl Harbor when the Japanese took AIRCRAFT CARRIERS more than halfway across the Pacific Ocean without anyone catching them at it. Do you suppose the air force decided to "stand down" there and let our ships and planes be wiped out? Americans (and others) have gone throughout history, getting caught with their pants down, kind of like Hitler and his Generals who thought that our main invasion in WWII was going to be at Calais, weeks after we made the beachhead at Normandy. We FOOLED them

at the time nobody actually saw or could prove that the first plane smash into the first tower, all they knew was that it was flaming, they only knew of the seriousness of the situation after the second plane hit. (note there is no footage of the first plane hitting, only of the second plane)

although there was an accidental recording from one of the hijacked planes, that was picked up by the ground.

read up on websites for more information about this, but take into account not all websites are accurate

what are you, 14? the I could see why you wouldn't know this answer.....First, they were still pondering whether it was an accident, or truly a terrorist attack.......They didn't know what was happening, the country is n shock....They hadn't even started making planes land yet.....The air force wasn't called because they thought it was an accident.....and I don't believe it was 30 minutes, wasn't it closer to 15? anyway.....that is why, everyone was in shock, and we didn't yet realize that it was terroris,

heres the thing ... and its a perfect plan really .... almost every agency including the pentagon and norad and airforce squadrons "just happened" to be on simulated training exercizes that day ....everyone stood down because everyone thought it was everyone elses training drills ......yeehaw .... what are the chances of that? and on that day ? everyone training? Want to hear another cool little tidbit of information? Youve heard of the 7/7 bombings in england? ..... you guessed it .... everyone in every agency was training .... and get THIS ...training for that exact scenario on the exact stations the trains were in that got hit .... every agency assumed it was anothers training exercize and did nothing for several hours thinking it was a drill ...... So .... the two biggest terrorist acts in recent history ... everybody just happens to be training and does nothing? ..... if you can swallow that bag of bs then u really are gullible.... the govts were involved but not all agencies knew that they were involved themselves.
