First it depends on what you want to be a specialty in. A recieving tight end or a blocking tight end. You can be a balanced tight end but you should always specialize in something. Work on upper body strenth and go run routes with the wide recievers to work on your hands.

lift weights and do sprints like a mad man - football is a spurt sport, meaning you are summoning energy in spurts - explosive squats and bench are a good start - if there is a hill by your house, sprint up and down the hill until you drop - also, make sure you do some weight training for your neck - you should really use your shoulder pads to hit but you will go head up here and there and you need your neck to be strong - football is more about physical confidence than it is strength and being strong makes you confident - also, have fun - remember, you have enough gear on to slay a dragon - the chances of you getting hurt is extremely slim - just go full speed with no fear - if you go half speed or if you shy away from a hit, you will pay the price - I played football in college and I'm 5'8" and I weighed 190 when I played - I could run a 4.6 40 yard dash, I benched 330 and I could squat 550 - Be a wild man out there and it doesn't matter how big you are - full speed is the key

Depends on what kind of team you are on. I played the TE position in high school. But our offense was mostly a running team, therefore I did a lot of blocking. I caught one pass the entire season and did not score a single TD. In this type of offense you'll want to workout and get strong. Work on your footwork too.
If you team is pass oriented then you will need to work on pass routes and get good using your hands. TE's aren't known to be fast so make sure you have good hands.
