I am a college student shopping for laptops, any suggestions? I was thinking about a Dell b/c they seem pretty affordable but am not sure. I am willing to spend around $1000.

Laptops are very fragile. Dell is worst rated! I have a dell laptop and a Sony laptop. I love my Sony. Go to consumerreports.com they will tell you what is best rated. Stay away from Dell and gateway.
Buy an extended warranty too. Like I said laptops are very fragile
Also from personal experience Dell's service plan call center is horrible. I used Sony for intertnet question and they were easy to understand and very very helpful.

Nothing against Dell, but I've heard a lot of back and forth about whether Dell computers are good. A lot of schools have contracts with Dell, so if you order it using a school code, you could get them a little cheaper than you ordering it without one.

I am a recent college graduate and I used an HP. I actually prefer using HP products. Prior to me getting a laptop, I had an HP desktop. The only problem I have with the one I purchased is that the battery doesn't last that long.

Regardless of who you go with, Toshiba, HP, Dell, etc., do a LOT of research before purchasing it, because it is definitely an investment.

Hello, I just purchased a laptop from Dell and I am very happy with it. It is normally 1200 but they were having a sale and I got it for 8-something. Definitely go with Dell. Mine is one of the Inspirons. I've watched movies on it and they look great.

It really depends on what you're looking for in a laptop, if its simply for typing papers and stuff like that you can find a really inexpensive laptop at the dell website, but if its for entertainment they feature the most advanced laptop available now, called the XPS. Check them all out.

Don't rule out the Apple. It is an awesome machine and now it can run windows as well as the Mac OS, which is infinity superior to Windows, much more stable and no viruses.

There support is the best I have ever had in a computer..and I am going back over 20 years.

I have a dell and no complaints. It really depends on what options you want though. I have friends that swear by Toshiba... I wanted to go through Dell because of the options offered. that and a really great service plan.

do no longer purchase CELERONS!!! the point 2 cache is barely 0.5 what it relatively is going to likely be, and that's what the processor unquestionably works from. The Celeron is a merchandising and marketing gimmick with the aid of Intel to decieve human beings into thinking they are getting a quickly processor whilst in certainty maximum of their processor cycles would be spent swapping documents out and in of RAM. think of i'm kidding, seem it up. examine the L2 cache length on a Celeron vs. a Pentium (2, 3, or 4) of a similar era. See?

I just bought one for just over $1000 and love it! I went with Compaq. I chose the one in the middle. They gave me a free screen upgrade. I got the AMD processor. I also found that they have better sound and video cards that come standard.
