You can get it from Best Buy, Compusa or Circuit City are the big box stores. You can also buy directly from the major manufacturers if you are worried about security and safety. I would not hesitate to recommend 3 on-line sources as they are big and very secure. Amazon.com, Buy.com or HP.com
Here is what you need:
Memory Specs
Standard Memory:256 MB (removable)
Maximum Memory:1.0 GB
Memory Expansion:2 sockets
Memory Comments:DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V
Take this information with you to the store. You need to get 2 512 meg memory sticks. For reference I provided links to pricing sites.
I recommend Kingston or Corsair(Micron) only. They have a lifetime warranty and great customer service.

Computer are like cars, in order to keep them running well you need to clean them and give them a "tune up" once in a while.
To make the computer faster, you need to clean your hard drive periodically and also defragment it.
Cleaning is easy, delete all cookies, .tmp files (not the Temp folder though), and temporary internet files.
Empty your recycle bin before you defragment.
If you know how to boot in Safe Mode, run defragmenter from Safe Mode, it works better that way.
To run disk defragmenter:
Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you deactivate any screen saver you have running before you run disk defragmenter otherwise disk defragmenter will stop and restart every time the screen saver comes on and it will not finish.
Let me know if you need more instructions on how to boot into safe mode.
As for RAM, you can buy it at any of the major electronic stores. Since you have a laptop, just take it with you to the store. That way they can determine exactly what type of RAM you need and how much RAM can your motherboard handle.
Good luck.

Its not just the amount of ram, its the processor type and speed, plus the overall bus speed of the ram. Plus you need to make sure you haven't got any viruses or nasty spyware eating up your processing power.
These days, a minimum of 512mb of ram (DDR 333mhz) is what you should go for, and thats just for standard operations such as browsing online, listening to music/movies. For mobile gaming you need a pretty decent mobile GPU and at least 1GB of ram but if the laptop is pretty old, it might be worth upgrading the entire laptop into a newer model.
Not all processors are created equally either, you need to know the difference between, semprons, celerons, P4s and Athlons when you make a decision to get a new laptop, that can make alot of difference on the functionality of it.

i have just the answer for you sir. When doing something like this people tend to get stressed out so just chill. next you need to have the right tools, 1) a 9927 phillips chip 2) red, yellow and white wires and 3) installing CD.
you also need to make sure that your computer has the right requirements is your computer DOS 5.0 or higher, IBM PC, windows 3.1or 3.11 and then any 9.0 or higher. Next you are going to click on the start butten on the computer, scroll to the my computer space and just upload the CD on the modem. Simple as that.
good luck

if u want to speed up the current computer i would say that i would be a good idea to delete any tune (sound files) videos, and compress large files into a .zip file or .rar file, but if you really want to buy a new RAM then buy something between 512MB and 1GB
