When the head has "dropped" you are very close to delivering.

Not necessarily. My daughter was in the "head-down" position for about 2 1/2 months before she was born. Babies can rotate themselves a lot in the uterus. I was also dilated 2 centimeters for over 6 weeks before I delivered. Ask your doctor what he thinks and realize that only the baby knows when he/she is coming. Due dates are only an approximation.

Your baby should normally flip (so that it's inverted and facing down) by the 7th month. Some babies never flip and are therefore considered "breech" babies.
Once the baby's head engages in the pelvic cavity, THEN you're getting ready to give birth, but that usually doesn't happen till the VERY end of pregnancy and sometimes not even till you're in labor.

no, my babies head has been so painfully low since 30 wks when he dropped. It's hard to walk or do pretty much anything. Doc said I was dilated @ 33 wks. I'm now 36 wks, and feeling less contractions than I had been, which makes me believe, I could go full term no matter how low the baby is. Doc says ppl like this could even go past their due date!!!

My baby's head was down by the last month, but at the last minute, she decided to flip over and was born by a C-section, cos she refused to come back down again! So be prepared for anything!

Yes and no...The baby's head rotates down in the last few weeks of pregnancy...which means you could begin labor today...or not for a few more weeks...
Don't skip any of your pre-natal visits...You should be seeing your doctor EVERY WEEK in the last month...

my baby was dropped for 2 weeks before my doc induced labor--but, it couldn't be good for the baby because my baby was very cone-headed at birth.
