Do the work yourself. Get the manual for this car (perhaps $50), buy some decent hand tools at Sears (around $75) and buy brake pads (less than $100) from an Internet retailer that specializes in BMW parts -- pick up a copy of Bimmer magazine for the names of dozens of such companies.
Read the manual and do the work yourself. It's not hard and you will feel a great sense of satisfaction. And you'll save a LOT of money.

Buy factory pads wherever you can get a decent price on the brake pads. To know if you need to turn the rotors go buy a dial indicator and stand setup so you can check run out on the brake rotors. Most Euro cars do not machine brake rotors they are replace only. In fact most manufactures today discard brake rotors if found out of run out spec. Buy only factory brake rotors from a source of best service and price. I can tell you MANY other things to make the brake job correct but I think you can find a complete brake job instructional in the factory manual in the suspension and brake section. Best of luck

There is nothing unusual about a BMW brake job. Depending on what you need, any good shop can do the work. There is no reason that I know of to go to the BMW dealer. If your rotors and calipers are still good, you will only need pads. Of course if you have let it go to the point where the rotors are damaged, the price will be considerably higher.

BMW dealer charges about $300 for pair of break pad replacement in my area. But there are so many people who works on BMW and posts how to do it yourself. So you can follow the direction and replace them yourself in 1 hour /w $50 in parts.
But if rotors are involved, it does get difficult. There is this little hex bolts holding the rotor and most first timers strip the bolts. When you have to drill this little bugger out, it takes 3 - 5 hours per rotor. So if it does go wrong, you can potentially waste all day. Rotors run about $20 - $50 each, and I prefer to use Brembo.

Brakes are easy to do. If you have the time and space, you should learn how to do it. I do my own brakes and it would cost me the parts (around $80 for pads/axle, >$200 if I get new rotors).
If you want to keep the rotors (assuming your rotors are still usable, take them to a shop and have them machined for you. Most shops charge around $20 to do that.
If you can turn a wrench, you can work on brakes.

Go to the dealer, if you can't afford the repairs you shouldn't have bought the car.
If you go to a chain place like Mavis or just a local repair shop you might void your warranty.
It's a BMW....take care of it and you'll have it forever!
