Okay, I have a laptop with a Wi-Fi card but I have dial-up internet. Yes, I know....dial up...*sigh*...it's all I can get where I live. Anyways, can I use the Wi-Fi connection at the coffee shops or do I need a Wi-Fi account? If I can use 'em then how? Thanks :)

I'm not exactly sure how it is near your place but in mine there is two ways for me to connect to the wifi connections near the coffee shops..

1. Free access - Normally we just need to access the internet via Explorer(in my case). Once when trying to jump to another page, the subcription page for a free account for the isp will appear. Fill in your data etc etc, and you are ready to surf with no payments.

2. Paid ISP - This is usually some ISP company wifi setup that you have to register somewhere and get their topup cards, payment by credit card, money order etc etc. If just have to choose wether the coverage area or shops that is providing these ISP's service is usually the place you hang out and subscribe to them.

These are the ones that i have here, it may differ from other countries. Have a nice day and take care.

Starbucks and many other coffee shops offer WiFi service, most for a fee. AT&T offers hotspots at Coffee Bean, Barnes & Noble, McDonalds, and The UPS Store to name a few locations. I know that AT&T charges $2.99/month for WiFi hotspots if you are a subscriber to their DSL service. That's well worth the price!
