I try to remember to breathe deeply. It helps calm the nerves.

Simple... just whistle.
Whistle a rhyme, a song, or just anything, then commence your task. Nobody will know what you really feel inside... nobody will notice you're nervous... -- because sometimes the people arround you are rather a plus to your being nervous -- and even yourself will be calmed somehow by the rhyme or song you're whistling. It's an effective camouflage. Try it ;)

Deep breathing.

Also, think about the situation that you're nervous about is it really that important in the grand scheme of things? Think about the possible outcomes, and even if they aren't what you want ask yourself.. So what?

If it affects a friend of a family member it's important; if not don't sweat it.

When I get nervous, I stop and take a few deep breaths. This helps me a lot. Also, sometimes you can use visualization to overcome your nerves. If you can do something in your mind, you can do it in reality.

Try transcendental meditation (that's basically concentrating on your breath and breathing evenly and slowly). Don't just do it when you're getting nervous, but practice it regularly, it will make you a less nervous person in general.

These answers are all ok, but in my own experience, those things arent always easy to do when you are in that state of mind. With me, I dont take the time out to think of those things, i just act on impulse. Not wise i know, but thats how it is.

Try sitting up straight and taking as deep a breath as possible. Do it when you feel the butterflies and it makes them go away. Closing your eyes and focusing on something that makes you happy usually works too. I do both and it works for me. =)
