Easy answer. Because you can't get all 191 countries (or so) in the world to give up their sovereignty in order to do this. I know for a fact the US would never give up its sovereignty to a world government, that's for sure. We won't commit troops to the UN, we like unilateral action, we won't join the International Criminal Court (ICC) or anything like that because it will diminsh our power and each individual country's power. I'm not criticizing it, I'm saying that's how it is, and how it should be. A world government is a long way away, if it ever occurs. And it wouldn't control a terrorist organization anyway!! They are not a state, they are a rogue organization such as Hezbollah that does not listen to the wishes of real countries such as the Lebanese government. Sure, Syria and Iran have some control since they are the financial backers. But if a terrorist organization had its own money, no state nor any WORLD PRESIDENT could ever do sh** about it!

Think about it. That World President would have control of the way we live and the what were allowed to think. Ever heard of Ancient Egypt and how the Pharaoh's ruled? It would be deju'vu except this time they would have control over the world.

We can't get two countries to agree. How do you expect one government to control the whole world? The problem we have now is because people won't mind their own business, and stay out of the way other countries are run.

Fair question.

Remember the Roman's had basically for their time a world president (emperor) and a senate.

My take is as governments increase in size and complex they get too caught up in paperwork, rules and procedures that they become too top heavy and forgot about the true purpose of government.

For that to happen democracy would have to reign in the world.Every country would have a leader elected on the one man/woman one vote principal. Then all the nations leaders could decide on a world leader ,something like the way the CARDINALS elect the POPE.
I can only see the need for a world government/leader if we on earth discover another civilization out there in the universe, maybe he would represent EARTH at the milky way GAMES ........Its just a thought

as much as i hate to say it this world will never have a unified government because there is way to much seperating the different races, creeds and religion.

our only chance for a single unified government was destroyed at the tower of bable when our ancestors stopped speaking the same language

Because people will still be ignorant regardless of the government. Why can't we have less government and more common sense?

Cos we'd finish up with an idiot as president. Look at any republic, the bigger the country the more stupid the president.
