well, duh! If someone asks, "Is the sky on earth blue?" you'd say "duh", because it's an obvious thing.

If someone asks an unbelievably stupid question that everyone and their dog knows the answer to or if someone states the obvious like "Hey you died your hair" Most junior high aged kids would reply with "Duh!!" Because they think that the person asking or making the comment is dumb for doing so.

I used it once in a play I wrote. It was meant to connote, "Hey, this is an obvious answer. Don't make it more difficult than it is."
